Synopsis

Stanley Krown (William Holden), an ambitious young writer who has written his first play, a dramatic story of a 19-year-old girl and her domineering mother. Harry Phillips (Paul Douglas) decides to produce the play provided his ex-wife, Beatrice Page (Ginger Rogers), mature stage star who insists on playing young romantic leads, is cast as the young beautiful daughter. Much against his better judgement and despite the protests of Sally Carter (Pat Crowley), a brash, young Broadway hopeful who is angling for the same part, Krown agrees. To complicate the situation, both women fall in love with Stanley and the play is a flop at it's initial tryout. After a series of hilarious and sometimes dramatic episodes, the story reaches an exciting and happy conclusion.
