Synopsis

Thelma Jordon, seperated from her gambler husband, is attracted to Cleve Marshall, assistant District Attorney who is beset with martial woes. They meet clandestinely several time and then Thelma calls to tell him that the aunt with whom she lives has been murdered. Cleve arrives to remove anything implicating Thelma and finds enough to point to her guilt. He secretely hires and attorney for her when he finds he must prosecute. He handles the case badly, winning he acquittal. Seriously injured in a car crash, Thelma tells the truth but omits mention of Cleve's complicity. The chief investigator puts together the truth and confronts Cleve with the threat of disbarment only to learn that Cleve, realizing how he has been duped and with Thelma dead, has confessed to the D.A..
