In the mid-1960s, Paramount dove headfirst into the world of television. In 1967, the studio underwent one of its largest expansions with the purchase of Desilu television studios from Lucille Ball. With this acquisition, Paramount gained control over and produced some of the most unforgettable TV series of all time.

Despite focusing a great deal of energy on television, Paramount continued to produce countless, unforgettable movies. It was during this period that some of the most groundbreaking films were created—most notably the influential Godfather series, which set the gold standard for gangster films to follow.
